Where were you in 1995?
Another one from the Labrador record's family. On Saturday the men from the Radio Dept. came down to Bandung to perform. With only three members left from their original members, they still deliver some concrete beats and liquid story telling.
A month ago, the print ad tells us that Saint Etienne and The Radio Dept. will be performing in Indonesia, but then The Radio Dept. was the only headlining band. That's okay, I guess, one is better that none. The Radio Dept. was usually among my play list that accompany me when my eyes get tired of the computer screen, but deadline is on my front door, so I cannot take a break. Is it a big deal for me? sure..it was.
I was really not in a good shape when we roll from Jakarta. The flu has attacked my ability to have a good time, and I was depending on some kind of adrenalin rush to make me stand on my feet and open my eyes. It was only a bad flu, but it really made it all go down hill. We left Jakarta on Friday night, one of the dudes brought nintendo wii, so that was cool. It will be off the chart cool, if I can shake away my dizziness and play along. so, there you go, all I can manage to do was watch the other go crazy. Hey, wait a minute, I am supposed to review the concert, right?
On Saturday, we finally left our place which was only 15 minutes away from the venue at El Dorado. We arrived at 8pm. Enter the indoor stage when Efek Rumah Kaca performed, holly mother of high pitch, they were awesome. But, I was gunned down after only ten minutes watching them. I was ready to hit the ground, my head was spinning and I just need to sit down. Well, Gee, Thanks Din, for ruining the whole night for the rest of the gang. Party Pooper!
I just sit on the right end of the stage, with my brother and friends, obviously the adrenalin rush that i had suspected to help me, didn't show up full force. I just don't have enough energy to stay on my feet the whole time.
Thank God, when the Radio Dept. started their set, I was ready and hey, I'm moving to the beat, yo! I love the way they mix loud distortion and low key melodies, the beat was the element that keep the audience held their head up instead of staring at their shoes. Because, if you know the lyric well, it will make you want to stare at your shoes, good story telling, remind you of your own life, I guess. Good music always does.
I was a disappointed at how fast the performance go, They play about ten songs, but it seems like in a blink of the eye thing. They did not play 1995, I felt wasted without consuming alcohol.
All in all, they are still a good band, maybe next time, it will be glorious. Maybe next time, I could have fun without having to deal with a sudden black out. Maybe next time 1995 .
